Turning complex regulations into clear, practical guidance — for over 20 years.
I’ve spent over 20 years translating complex regulations into accessible, practical guidance through educational materials—whether for students or corporate training programs. My background in biochemistry, combined with my experience as a published author of cancer diagnostic research, provides a strong foundation in science. However, what truly drives me is the fascinating intersection of science, law, and human connection.
I entered this profession because I enjoy the challenge of integrating important (and often unpopular) programs and procedures into business operations that primarily focus on maximizing profits. Contrary to common assumptions, my work isn’t about enforcing rules for the sake of it—it’s about fostering trust between businesses and their consumers.
As a self-proclaimed foodie, I’ve always been passionate about food and health. Long before I read labels professionally, I was an avid label reader as a consumer, determined to make informed choices. Over the years, I’ve probably examined every label in my local grocery store. I used to feel frustrated by labels that were confusing or deceptive—sometimes to the point of wanting to crumple them up as a warning to other shoppers. Now, I see those non-compliant labels as opportunities to help businesses improve.
I work with my clients to understand that regulations aren’t just bureaucratic hurdles—they’re designed with the target customer’s experience in mind. Too often, clearance shelves are filled with products that overlooked these principles, unintentionally alienating their audience. My goal is to help my clients avoid this pitfall by creating products that not only comply with regulations but also resonate with consumers.
A Passion for the Challenge:
I love this work because it’s challenging. Unlike many in this field, I have a unique background in both science and regulatory compliance. I’ve often been called in to correct the work of other consultants or employees who found themselves in over their heads. Additionally, I’ve had the privilege of mentoring other consultants during my time at a large consulting firm, as well as guiding employees of my clients who are just starting out in this field. This work is complex, and I freely share my knowledge because I believe it’s essential to have more qualified professionals doing it—especially when it could potentially save lives.
A Solutions-Oriented Approach:
It’s not uncommon for compliance professionals to take an adversarial stance—pointing out problems and non-conformances without offering practical solutions. Too often, this leaves business owners or managers feeling overwhelmed, unsure of how to resolve issues, or worried about the costs involved. I take a different approach. If I see something, I say something—non-compliances will be noted, as that’s why clients hire compliance consultants. However, I don’t just identify issues; I arrive with solutions tailored to meet business needs. I can offer industry best practices, but I also have several resourceful, get-it-done strategies for when budgets or circumstances require creativity.
